Summer officially starts tomorrow (June 20th). Temperatures have already begun to rise. Staying cool during the hot San Antonio summer is crucial. It's not too late to start preparing your San Antonio home for summer. Use the following checklist as a guide to make sure you and your family stay comfortable this season.
Preparing Your San Antonio Home for Summer
When preparing your San Antonio home for summer, you might want to start with your windows and screens. Give them a good scrubbing. First, take your screens off. Use your shop vac to clean off any excess dirt or debris. Then, you'll only need a bit of dish soap and elbow grease to clean the screens. Make a non-toxic window cleaning solution using one part hot water and one part vinegar and put it into a spray bottle. Use a sponge to wipe off the solution. To avoid streaks, go back over the window with a clean, dry cloth using small, circular motions until it's dry. When you're all done with the windows, carefully put your clean screens back into place.
Air Conditioning System
As the weather heats up, we tend to put our air conditioning systems and ceiling fans to good use. Make an appointment to have your HVAC system serviced as soon as possible. Change your air filter once a month. This allows your HVAC system to work as efficiently as possible. Wipe down the blades on your ceiling fan. You don't want to turn them on and have dust bunnies flying everywhere. Remember, fan blades should spin counterclockwise to force cooler air down towards you.
Finally, when preparing your San Antonio home for summer, walk around the exterior of your home. Stone Oak living means entertaining during the summer. Check the deck. Repair or replace loose boards. If it's looking a little worse for wear, you might want to sand and stain it. Wash off your outdoor furniture with warm soapy water. If you own a pool, make sure the pump is working properly.
Next, look for wear and tear on the exterior of your home. Power wash dirt and debris from the sides of your San Antonio home. Touch up paint wherever necessary. Then, inspect the driveway. Did the winter wreak havoc with it? Do you see cracks? Has a mossy buildup developed? You can power wash away the moss. But you'll need to seal the cracks to avoid further damage.
This checklist should help you prepare your San Antonio home for the long summer months ahead. It's a good time to fix what damage winter may have done to your property as well as protect your home from possible future damage. That way you and your family can enjoy your home for years to come.
