America's a melting pot. This really shows itself in our fair city. All ages, races, religions, and ethnicities are welcome here. That's what Stone Oak living is all about. The National Civic League recognized our efforts towards inclusiveness. For the fourth time in the last five years, San Antonio received the NCL's All-American City Award. This award honors those communities striving to create an environment where everyone works together towards the greater good.

San Antonio receives its another All-American City Award from the National Civic League, the fourth in five years, for its efforts in creating an inclusive community for all.

San Antonio Named an All-American City

The National Civic League (NCL) praised San Antonio for its outreach programs. With SA2020, the City set community goals to achieve by the year 2020. They included infrastructure improvement, graduation rate increases, raising income levels, and civic-minded programs. In naming San Antonio an All-American City, the NCL gave props to four specific programs: the San Antonio Teen Pregnancy Prevention Collaborative, the SA SpeakUp Budget Campaign, Enroll SA, and Upgrade.

San Antonio Teen Pregnancy Prevention Collaborative

The Teen Pregnancy Prevention program already reduced teen pregnancy rates in Bexar County by 25% as of 2014, well ahead of its 2020 goal. Therefore, they set a new goal of a 50% reduction within the next two years

SA SpeakUp Budge Campaign

Next, they singled out the SA SpeakUp Budget Campaign for including San Antonio residents in the budgeting process. Back in 2006, only 850 residents participated. As a result of their inclusive efforts, that figure rose over 940% to almost 8000 people total last year.

Enroll SA

Furthermore, the NCL appreciated the increased enrollment in health care coverage for residents under the age of 65. With a 75% enrollment rate in 2010, Enroll SA set a goal of raising that to 85% by 2020. In 2016, they hit 81.6%. Seems like they could hit their 85% goal before their target date.

Upgrade

Finally, Upgrade came about last year to address our City's lagging college education rates. Upgrade helps adults find programs that work for them. Then, they help them form a plan of action to achieve their degree goals. This includes help with filling out applications, finding financial aid, and even looking for childcare options. The program already shows a marked improvement in college attainment.
