Now that it's October, we're in the thick of autumn. Stone Oak Living provides a wonderful lifestyle year round. But I think autumn is my favorite. We may have passed the "busy season" for real estate across the country (that would be summer), but buyers still seek out homes in the San Antonio marketplace. With less competition at the moment, they can take their time to search for the right property. So, if your house is currently on the market, you're going to want to stand out. Embrace the season by utilizing these tips for selling your San Antonio home in the fall.

Selling Your San Antonio Home in the Fall

Keep Holiday Themes to a Minimum

Selling Your San Antonio Home in the Fall - Search homes for sale in the San Antonio areaPeople usually associate October with Halloween. November brings thoughts of Thanksgiving. And, of course, December means Christmas. However, stick to a more "seasonal" vibe when selling your San Antonio home in the fall. Think harvest time. Natural elements like tree branches, various colored leaves, and pinecones provide wonderful autumn accents to your home decor. Add some pumpkins (not jack-o-lanterns) and other gourds along with cornstalks and hay bales to your front porch. Change out your old welcome mat for an autumn-themed one. You can still celebrate the holidays by adding discrete decorations here and there. Just keep them to a minimum for a more subdued and tasteful look. You don't want to scare kids away with scary Halloween decorations or frighten buyers with an abundance of gaudy decorations.

Pops of Burgundy and Spice

Change up the look of your home by adding traditional autumn colors of rich burgundy, deep orange spice, and cozy amber. Instead of slathering paint on the walls, add pops of color with artwork, vases, pillows, bed coverings, and throw blankets here and there. Add a new set of autumn-inspired towels to the bathroom. When selling your San Antonio home in the fall, use the color of the season as inspiration by infusing it sparingly throughout your house.

Engage Your Sense of Smell

When selling your San Antonio home in the fall, engage all the senses. Color is great for the eyes. But what about your sense of smell? Choose one main fragrance: pumpkin spice, apple cinnamon, woodsy fireplace, etc. Then use plug-ins, simmer pots, candles or reed diffusers to add the smell in various locations around your home. Keep the fragrance light, though. You don't want to send potential buyers running outside because the smell has overwhelmed their senses, triggering a sneezing fit.

Set a Festive Table

Finally, show buyers how great this San Antonio home can be for entertaining. Set your dining room table up as though you are hosting a huge feast. Break out the china, crystal and your finest silverware. Use cloth napkins and placemats in fall colors. Add tapered candles on gorgeous candlesticks and natural elements as accent pieces. A beautiful table runner and/or complementary tablecloth provide the perfect finishing touch. Make buyers imagine spending dinner time with their loved ones right here in your home.

When selling your San Antonio home in the fall, embrace the season as part of your home decor. Engage all of a buyer's senses to entice them to choose your home over any other. You'll have this house sold before you know it! Contact me when you're ready to list.
